Welcome to Venice
Stunning LA community with an infamous oceanfront boardwalk.
Southern California is full of beautiful beach neighborhoods, and Venice may be the best of all. The neighborhood was designed by eccentric millionaire Abbot Kinney in 1905, who wanted it to look just like its Italian namesake. While you won't find any gondolas paddling through the canal district, Venice is certainly one of the most beloved neighborhoods in LA.
Venice is known for having a Bohemian subculture, but it has plenty of options for those who enjoy a luxurious lifestyle. The neighborhood provides a nice mix of urban and suburban feel that makes it an ideal place to raise a family. No matter what type of lifestyle you are seeking in Venice, everyone can enjoy beautiful Venice Beach.
What to Love
- One of the most eccentric boardwalks in the United States
- Famous recreation centers: Muscle Beach, the Venice Skate Park, and The Venice Beach Recreation Center
- Home to Kinney Boulevard, named the "Coolest Block in America" by GQ magazine
While Venice is certainly an eccentric hangout, the neighborhood is also full of young professionals and families. Just about everyone in Venice is either a surfer, skater, entrepreneur, or artist. In some cases, all of the above. It has long attracted the free spirits of Southern California, and the corporate professionals who vibe in that culture. You will meet plenty of highly skilled executives on the weekdays that transform into surfers on the weekends. It is a place where everyone is welcome as they are.
Dining, Entertainment & Shopping
Just as the neighborhood was inspired by Italy, so are some of its top restaurants. One of our favorite high-end options is Felix Trattoria. The restaurant is helmed by celebrity chef Evan Funke, although he prefers the title of "culinary storyteller”. Funke was an apprentice under famed Italian chef Alessandra Spisni at her restaurant in Bologna, Italy. In 2017, Funke decided to bring his talents to Venice Beach in Felix Trattoria. The dining room is reservations-only, so be sure to plan in advance. When it comes to recommending fine dining in Venice, The Tasting Kitchen must be mentioned. The Tasting Kitchen has won numerous awards for its innovative take on Italian-American fusion. Everything in the restaurant is made from scratch and sourced with farm-to-table ingredients. Due to its reliance on locally sourced ingredients, the menu changes with each season. The kitchen is led by chef Travis Passerotti, who apprenticed under some of the best chefs in Europe before returning to the Pacific Coast.
Everyone has heard of Rodeo Drive, but Abbot Kinney Boulevard is where real fashion trends are born. Its boutiques offer a curated selection of high-quality apparel, footwear, accessories, and more. There is plenty of Italian influence in Venice, but Huset brings a nice Scandinavian touch to the beach neighborhood. This boutique is full of clothes, home goods, and bath & body products from top Scandinavian designers. Everlane has dominated Instagram and the online marketplace with fashionable and ethically sourced clothing. The clothing line only has one storefront location, and it's on Abbot Kinney Boulevard. Unlike their website, their brick-and-mortar store allows shoppers to interact with incredibly knowledgeable staff. The storefront is an excellent place to browse Everline's products.
Things to Do
No guide to Venice would be complete without recommending Venice Beach. The beach has received international acclaim, and for good reason. It is a hub for recreation, arts, and leisure.
If you are in the mood to see a concert or live performance, the Electric Lodge Performing Arts Center is the premier venue. Not only will you find live entertainment, but also acting classes, workshops, and numerous self-improvement seminars.
Venice public schools are served by the Los Angeles Unified School District. There is a mix of charter, private, and traditional schools. Notable schools include:
- New West Charter School
- Da Vinci Science (Charter)
- Larchmont Charter School
